This two-day seminar is designed to support educators in helping students with language-based learning disabilities (LBLD) improve their written expression skills. The seminar will begin with a comprehensive overview of LBLD, with a specific focus on expressive language challenges. The seminar will introduce effective strategies to scaffold oral and written expression at both the word and sentence levels. Participants will learn the benefits of a process-driven approach to paragraph and multi-paragraph writing, along with specific activities, models, and resources for integrating these strategies across the curriculum, particularly within thematic units.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the connection between oral and written language
  • Identify the hidden demands of writing, especially for students with LBLD
  • Create practical lessons and activities at the word, sentence, and paragraph/multi-paragraph levels
